The textbook is designed in accordance with the syllabus of the subject “English for Professional Purposes” for the first-year medical students of higher medical educational establishments.

The topics of the textbook aim at studying medical terminology of anatomy and basic medical sciences. With the help of applied activities, students may be encouraged to acquire professional medical vocabulary and use the required terminology at the STEP 1 Medical Licensing Examination. In addition, medical students will learn to think critically and explore different ways of learning medical terms. First Step into Medical English includes authentic medical texts, lists of relevant vocabulary and terms, training grammar exercises, tasks for practising lexical skills, case studies, topics for the self-study followed by training exercises and self-control tasks.
